Known as the 3DS XL here in America, Nintendo has announced that their larger model of the popular handheld will be ceasing production soon. Siliconera reports that the Japanese homepage lists (I cannot read Japanese, and Google wouldn’t translate the whole page) that while you can still buy a 3DS LL in seven colors for now, the description says “ending production soon”. This should actually surprise no one, as the “New” 3DS has been topping the sales charts in Japan since it came out. Also at a price point very close to the original models, it really makes no sense for Nintendo to continue production on the older, weaker model. While the original sized 3DS has not received the same sunsetting notice as the LL, I would not be surprised to see the same message pop up sooner rather than later.
All I can really hope at this point is that the production lines that will no longer be making 3DS LL’s for Japan will be switching over to making “New” 3DS XL’s for North America. I want my better CPU 3DS Nintendo. Step on it.
